Writers Colonies

How many poets out there have spent time at a writers colony or residency? Was it worthwhile? productive? Do you recommend it? Did you have a work underway at the time or were you in need of inspiration or a trigger to produce new work? I found a listing and have transferred them to my blog (over on the right).
