Unwholesome Mold

One of the more insidious results of a visiting storm is mold.

Molds are fungi that predate the human species. The fungus reproduces by spores and the spores seep and creep into porous surfaces including wet carpets, wood floors and human lungs.

These tropic loving spores find a haven in warm, damp places and cheer on flood waters, backed up drainage, standing water and leaking roofs.

The CDC recognizes the dangers of mold, especially to persons who are more susceptible to its effects, and has plenty of preventive information at its website.

Those of us who are in the path of storms and flooding should also be checking our homeowners' policies for mold remediation coverage.
