New Year's Haiku #2

Looking for Hafiz,
I find
the clutter of paper.

Hafiz was a Persian poet and Sufi master who lived 700 years ago, in a time period which paralleled Chaucer in England. His poetry is a love song to God: sensuous, funny, pure and often puzzling to the modern Western reader. Here is one of my favorites.

THE GREAT RELIGIONS

The
Great religions are the
Ships.

Poets the life
Boats.

Every sane person I know has jumped
Overboard.

That is good for business
Isn't it

Hafiz?
